Pact Victories
Our past victories reflect the hard work, passion, and dedication of our team, supporters, and community. Look back at some of our proudest achievements and the impact we’ve made together.
2023 – PACT in collaboration with PICO Statewide Federation and CA Housing Allies won SB 567 Tenant Protections and SB4 Affordable Housing on Faith Land.
2022 -PACT immigration leaders fought for Federal legislation “Renewing Immigration Provisions of the Immigration Act of 1929”
2021: In response to COVID -19 PACT launched, “Convivios de Vivienda,” sacred space created for impacted community members at risk of losing home and unable to access state rent relief.
2020 – PACT Faith Leader Declaration: Moral Response to COVID – 19
2019 – PACT helped to secure Santa Clara County’s commitment to not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement at the County jails
2017 – PACT helped to pass Santa Clara County, Measure A (to issue almost one billion dollars in bonds to develop more affordable housing)
2017 – PACT was a key part of the coalition that won passage of an update to San José’s Apartment Rent Ordinance (ARO) to cap rents at 5% increases each year, created a new Anti-Retaliation Program, instituted a Just-Cause eviction requirement, and city-wide registry to track all evictions in the city
2016 – Conducted voter engagement in Santa Clara County, registering over 2,500 new and infrequent voters and having 34,567 conversations with over 10,000 voters. We played an important role in winning: Measure A for affordable housing; Prop 55 for education funding; and Proposition 57 to increase rehabilitation in the criminal justice system
2016 – With allies, secured City policies and programs for better protections for renters facing skyrocketing rents and displacement
2016 – Secured San José City Council commitment to adopt gun violence prevention policies
2016 – Secured City and Police Department commitment in San José to include community input in evaluating and updating body camera policy
2016 – Secured five hundred and forty-six million dollars for seniors and low-income residents in Measure B Transportation Improvements
2016 – With allies, won County bail reform to ease unfair burden on low-income families
2016 – Supported organizing for San José’s Housing Impact Fee to fund affordable housing
2015 – 2016 –
Held 5 Beloved Community dialogues on police-community relations with over 1,000 community members, law enforcement officials and other public officials to build understanding across different experiences and roles
2015-2016 –
PACT Leaders served on County Blue Ribbon Commission to make recommendations to improve jail conditions
2015 – Secured SJPD, commitment to provide implicit bias and principled policing training for all officers
2014 – Secured over two million dollars for expanded transportation for seniors and disabled residents
2014 – Launched Night Walks for community building and neighborhood safety
2014 – Helped pass Prop 47 to return millions of dollars annually from the prison system to our communities
2014 – Helped to create the City of San José foreclosure help line
2014 – Won passage of the socially responsible investment policy
2014– Helped to win the state Homeowners Bill of Rights
2013-2014 –
Supported the development and opening of 8 new schools for over 3,500 students.
2013 – Won one million three hundred thousand dollars for VTA (Santa Clara County Valley Transportation Authority) reduced fare transportation for low-income residents
2013 – With PICO, helped get an immigration reform bill passed in the U.S. Senate and organized a 21-day, 285 mile Pilgrimage for a Pathway to Citizenship
2013 – Secured Santa Clara County law enforcement policy protecting civil rights of immigrants and public safety for all
2012 – Organized with DREAM students
2012 – Launched a new campaign for improved seniors services and transportation
2012 – Helped win state drivers license for immigrants
2012 – Helped pass Prop 30 funding for schools, public safety, health and social services, and increase the San José minimum wage
2011-2012 –
Helped win approval of 30 excellent new schools for 14,000 students
2011 – Supported the development and opening of 5 new charter schools in East San José
2010 – PACT, with our PICO sister organization, helped win national health reform for millions of families.
2010 – PACT initiated a new City of San José investment policy to stop preventable foreclosures, resulting in the City divesting hundreds of millions from BofA.
2009 – PACT won City foreclosure helpline
2009 – PACT launched national divestment campaign for bank accountability
2009 – 2012 –
Leading the organizing for Inclusionary Zoning,
2008 – Organizing for just cause protections and secured expanded protections for renters
2008 – PACT co-founded San José Charter School Consortium
2007 – Won inclusionary zoning policy for affordable housing
2007 – PACT secured City Council & SJPD commitment to not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement
2006/2007 –
PACT created County Task Force on Law Enforcement & Immigrant Community Relations
2005 – PACT won opening of Alum Rock Youth Center
2005 – PACT launched ACE Charter School Network
2004 – PACT helped design and open 4 new, small schools
2002 – PACT secured millions in state funds for community health clinics
2001 –PACT co-founded the Children’s Health Initiative with Working Partnerships USA
1992 – PACT won opening of homework centers throughout San José
1991 – PACT initiated creation of San José BEST investing millions annually in youth gang prevention programs
1990s – PACT won creation of the City of San José’s Housing Dept
1990 – PACT won new stop lights and sidewalks to improve safety throughout San José.
